Cage for Your Cockatiel

Cockatiels require a cage that is appropriately sized, safe, and comfortable for them to live in. Here are some general guidelines for choosing a cage and meeting the requirements for a cockatiel:

  • Cage Size: The cage should be large enough to allow your cockatiel to spread their wings and move around comfortably. A good minimum size for a single cockatiel is 20 inches long, 20 inches wide, and 24 inches tall.
  • Cage Bar Spacing: The spacing between the bars should be no more than 5/8 inch (1.5 cm) to prevent your cockatiel from escaping or injuring themselves.
  • Cage Material: Choose a cage made of non-toxic materials, such as stainless steel, powder-coated metal, or acrylic. Avoid cages made of wood or painted materials that could be harmful to your bird.
  • Cage Location: Place the cage in a quiet, draft-free area of your home, away from direct sunlight, and extreme temperatures. Cockatiels are social birds and enjoy being near their owners, so consider placing the cage in a room where you spend a lot of time.
  • Cage Accessories: Provide perches, food and water dishes, toys, and a bird bath for your cockatiel. Make sure the cage has enough space to accommodate these accessories, while still allowing your bird room to move around.
  • Cage Cleaning: Clean the cage and accessories regularly with mild soap and water to prevent the buildup of harmful bacteria.

Remember, the size and type of cage you choose will impact your cockatiel's health and happiness. Providing a safe, comfortable, and stimulating living environment is essential for the well-being of your pet.
